You may have seen the job posting in local papers or online for a North Cowichan Youth For Community Coordinator.

This is an exciting program that is in its second year.  Featured on CHEK TV news this program is deemed to have been successful in its aim to eliminate the social barriers between youth and the 55 plus age group in our communities.

The program, which is  funded jointly  by a Coast Capital Community Investment Grant, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and the Chemainus Rotary Club -- provides employment services for youth (including youth at risk) who would like to gain useful skills and build their resumes.

The funding pays for the wages  for youth to provide services to seniors at no charge.

The services available include:

Gardening  -- Weeding -- Light Cleaning -- Pet Care -- Painting -- Watering Plants --     Meal Preparation -- Friendly visits -- Household Chores  (note, they are unable to haul away refuse)

The Program Coordinator provides on-the-job-training and mentoring during all tasks to ensure each youth is supported in their employment goals.

Assisting seniors with ''odd jobs" around their homes is a win/win situation for youth and resident.

Youth for communities is expected to serve between 50 - 70 individuals in Crofton and Chemainus this summer.  The youth, ages 12 - 18 will also offer services to the Chemainus Health Care Center, assist with Rotary initiatives and help at Dovehill House.

If you have any questions about the program or you have an "odd job" that our youth team can assist with please contact North Cowichan Youth Outreach to set up a consultation  with our Youth for Community Program Coordinator:
