Today was long time Councilor George Seymour's final regular council meeting. The emotion in chambers was palpable. It is obvious that George touched the hearts of all those who worked with him.
George has selflessly and graciously served the Cowichan Valley for 15 years as North Cowichan Councillor. He has also served many years as NC representative on the CVRD board. He was instrumental in bringing forward many of the ideas in the Official Community Plan, both the 2002 version and the newly adopted version and so many other initiatives over these last 15 years. George -- a consummate gentleman, intelligent, diligent, courteous, friendly and kind -- is much admired and even loved by many folks around these parts. He was duly honored by North Cowichan and shared some closing words of wisdom, including his hope that future councils will not let ideology stand in the way of doing the best for the community. George's shoes are impossible to fill, yet his particular way of doing politics showed people that a humble, hard working, independent candidate is what the majority of voters are looking for. He consistently topped the polls. Thank you George.
